Identification:
A large, slender raven with glossy black plumage and a subtle brownish or rufous wash on the neck, especially visible in good light. It has a relatively long, narrow bill compared to the Common Raven, giving it a more refined appearance. The wings are long and pointed, and in flight it appears lighter and more agile than its larger relative. The tail is wedge-shaped, typical of ravens.

Habitat:
Arid and semi-arid environments including deserts, rocky areas, coastal regions, and open plains. Often associated with cliffs, escarpments, and human settlements where food is available.

Status in the UAE:
Common resident. Widespread across desert and mountainous regions, as well as coastal areas.

Diet:
Omnivorous — feeds on carrion, insects, small vertebrates, eggs, and human refuse. Highly opportunistic and adaptable in its feeding habits.

Behavior:
Highly intelligent and social, often seen in pairs or small groups. Known for strong, soaring flight and deep, croaking calls. Frequently glides over desert landscapes or perches on elevated vantage points. Displays curiosity and problem-solving abilities typical of corvids.
