Identification:
A large, fast-moving arachnid with a pale sandy to yellowish-brown coloration, well adapted to desert camouflage. It is easily recognized by its massive forward-projecting chelicerae (jaws), which are used to crush and macerate prey. The body is segmented and covered with fine hairs, and it has long, powerful legs designed for speed. Unlike true spiders or scorpions, it lacks venom glands.

Habitat:
Arid and semi-arid environments including deserts, sandy plains, and rocky areas. Often shelters in burrows or under rocks during the day to avoid extreme heat.

Status in the UAE:
Native and locally present. Found in desert regions across the UAE, though rarely seen due to its nocturnal behavior.

Diet:
Carnivorous — feeds on insects, other arachnids, small reptiles, and occasionally small rodents. Hunts actively at night using speed and strong jaws.

Behavior:
Nocturnal and highly active predator. Known for its remarkable speed and agility. Uses pedipalps as sensory organs to detect prey and navigate. Despite myths, it is non-venomous; however, it may bite if threatened, causing a painful but non-toxic injury.
