Identification:
A large, robust bunting with a thick, powerful bill. Plumage is overall brown and heavily streaked, giving it a rather plain appearance. It lacks strong facial markings, which helps distinguish it from other buntings. The tail is relatively short, and the bird often appears bulky when perched.

Habitat:
Open farmland, grasslands, steppe-like areas, and dry agricultural landscapes with scattered vegetation.

Status in Lebanon:
Resident and passage migrant. Found in open agricultural areas and grasslands.

Diet:
Omnivorous — feeds mainly on seeds and grains, especially in winter, and insects during the breeding season.

Behavior:
Often seen perched on wires, fences, or exposed stems, singing from prominent positions. Flight is direct but not particularly fast. Usually found alone or in small groups. Known for its distinctive jangling song.
