Identification:
A medium-sized wild sheep with a compact, muscular build. Males are characterized by large, curved horns that spiral backward, while females have smaller horns or may lack them entirely. The coat is generally brown with lighter underparts, and males often show a distinctive white “saddle” patch on the flanks. The short coat and coloration provide camouflage against rocky terrain.

Habitat:
Rocky mountains, steep slopes, and rugged landscapes with sparse vegetation. Prefers areas with open visibility and limited human disturbance.

Status in Lebanon:
Introduced and locally present. Found in restricted mountainous areas, mainly within protected reserves or managed environments.

Diet:
Herbivorous — feeds on grasses, herbs, shrubs, and low vegetation.

Behavior:
Highly adapted to mountainous terrain, with excellent climbing ability. Typically lives in small groups, with males often forming separate bachelor groups outside the breeding season. Alert and cautious, relying on elevation and terrain for protection.
