Identification:
A small, sandy-colored lark with a compact body and relatively long tail. Plumage ranges from pale sandy to greyish-brown, blending perfectly with desert terrain. It has a slightly downcurved bill and lacks strong markings, giving it a plain appearance. The tail often shows darker outer feathers. Compared to other larks, it appears more uniform in color and less streaked.

Habitat:
Arid and semi-arid environments including rocky deserts, gravel plains, and sandy areas with sparse vegetation. Often found in harsh, open landscapes.

Status in the UAE:
Common resident. Widely distributed across desert habitats, especially in rocky and gravel areas.

Diet:
Omnivorous — feeds on seeds, small insects, and other invertebrates depending on seasonal availability.

Behavior:
Usually seen alone or in pairs rather than in flocks. Ground-dwelling and often runs or walks while foraging. Its song is soft and melodic, delivered from the ground or during short display flights. Well adapted to desert life, able to survive long periods without direct water.
