Identification:
A tiny, delicate bird with a pale grey head and a distinct black mask across the eyes. Upperparts are warm brown, while the underparts are buff to whitish. It has a fine, pointed bill. Its most remarkable feature is its hanging, pouch-like nest woven from plant fibers. Both sexes are similar, though the mask may vary slightly in intensity.

Habitat:
Wetlands, reed beds, riverbanks, lakesides, and marshes with trees such as willows and poplars. Prefers dense vegetation near water.

Status in Lebanon:
Passage migrant and local breeder. Recorded in suitable wetland habitats, especially during migration seasons.

Diet:
Insectivorous — feeds on small insects, larvae, and spiders; also takes seeds outside the breeding season.

Behavior:
Active and agile, often moving through reeds and branches while foraging. Known for its remarkable nest-building behavior, creating hanging nests suspended from branches. Usually quiet, with soft calls. Seen singly, in pairs, or small groups.
