Identification:
A small, pale finch with a compact body and a short tail. Plumage is mostly sandy-brown above with a paler underside. The most distinctive feature is its thick, conical silvery-grey bill. Habitat:
Dry open habitats, scrublands, farmland, gardens, and urban areas. Often associated with human settlements.

Common resident. Well established and widespread, especially in agricultural and urban environments.

Diet:
Granivorous — feeds mainly on grass seeds and small grains, occasionally insects.

Behavior:
Highly social and usually seen in small flocks. Often feeds on the ground or in low vegetation. Flight is quick and direct. Frequently perches on wires or bushes. Nests in small, rounded structures made of grass.
