Identification:
The smallest carnivorous mammal in the world, with a very slender, elongated body and short legs. It has a small, narrow head, short rounded ears, and a short tail without a black tip. The upperparts are brown while the underparts are white, creating a clear contrast. In some colder regions, it may turn white in winter, but this is uncommon in the Middle East.

Habitat:
A wide range of habitats including grasslands, farmland, forest edges, scrublands, and mountainous areas. Often found near areas with abundant small prey.

Status in Lebanon:
Native but rarely observed. Likely under-recorded due to its small size and secretive behavior.

Diet:
Carnivorous — feeds mainly on small rodents, as well as birds, insects, and other small animals.

Behavior:
Highly active and agile predator. Mostly solitary and territorial. Hunts by entering burrows of rodents, relying on speed and flexibility. Active both day and night. Despite its small size, it is a fearless and efficient hunter.
