Identification:
A large, robust lizard with a long body and tail. Adults are typically bright green, especially during the breeding season, often marked with small dark spots. Males may develop more intense coloration, sometimes with bluish tones on the head or throat. The head is broad, and the limbs are strong. Juveniles are usually brownish with lighter stripes or patterns.

Habitat:
Woodlands, scrublands, forest edges, rocky slopes, and agricultural areas. Prefers areas with vegetation cover and basking sites.

Status in Lebanon:
Native and relatively common. Widespread in suitable habitats, particularly in mountainous and semi-forested regions.

Diet:
Carnivorous — feeds mainly on insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates, occasionally small vertebrates.

Behavior:
Diurnal and active. Frequently seen basking in the sun on rocks or vegetation. Quick and agile, retreating rapidly into cover when disturbed. Territorial, especially during the breeding season. Excellent climber and ground runner.
