Identification:
A large, non-venomous snake with a slender but powerful body. Coloration varies from light grey to brown with darker blotches or irregular markings along the back, giving it a mottled appearance. The head is slightly distinct from the body with relatively large eyes and round pupils. The smooth scales give it a subtle glossy appearance.

Habitat:
Mountainous regions, rocky slopes, forest edges, and scrublands. Often associated with stone walls, ruins, and areas that provide shelter and prey.

Status in Lebanon:
Native and present, mainly in mountainous and semi-forested areas. Rarely encountered due to its secretive nature.

Diet:
Carnivorous — feeds primarily on rodents, birds, and occasionally reptiles.

Behavior:
Diurnal to crepuscular. A capable climber, often found in rocky terrain or vegetation. Uses constriction to subdue prey. Generally shy and non-aggressive, but may hiss or strike defensively if threatened.
