Identification:
A very small, slender snake with a delicate build and short tail. Coloration is typically light brown to grey with subtle darker markings. The head often shows a characteristic patterned or ornamented appearance, giving rise to its Arabic name. The head is only slightly distinct from the body, with small eyes and round pupils. Scales are smooth, contributing to a soft, matte look.

Habitat:
Rocky areas, dry hillsides, scrublands, and forest edges. Frequently found under stones, in crevices, and within loose soil.

Status in Lebanon:
Native and locally present. Likely under-recorded due to its small size and secretive lifestyle.

Diet:
Carnivorous — feeds mainly on small invertebrates such as insects, larvae, and spiders.

Behavior:
Secretive and mostly active during mild conditions, often at dusk or night. Moves slowly and relies heavily on camouflage. Completely non-venomous and harmless to humans. Spends much of its time hidden under rocks or within soil.
