Identification:
A medium-sized sandgrouse with a relatively slender build and long pointed wings. Plumage is mostly sandy-brown with fine vermiculations, providing excellent camouflage in desert habitats. The face is slightly paler, and the underparts are buff. The tail is short compared to some other sandgrouse species. In flight, it appears fast and direct with narrow wings.

Habitat:
Arid and semi-arid landscapes including deserts, gravel plains, rocky areas, and dry wadis with sparse vegetation.

Status in the UAE:
Resident but localized. Found mainly in mountainous and rocky desert regions, particularly in the Hajar range.

Diet:
Granivorous — feeds primarily on seeds.

Behavior:
Mostly active during early morning and late afternoon. Often seen in pairs or small groups. Flies long distances to water sources, especially at dawn. Well adapted to desert life, capable of withstanding high temperatures and limited water availability.
