Identification:
A medium-sized chameleon with a laterally compressed body and a long, prehensile tail. Color varies widely from green to brown, yellow, or even darker tones depending on mood, temperature, and environment. The skin has a granular texture, and a low crest may be visible along the back. The eyes are large, turret-like, and move independently. The tongue is long and projectile, used to catch prey.

Habitat:
Shrublands, coastal vegetation, forests, orchards, and gardens. Prefers areas with dense vegetation and climbing structures.

Status in Lebanon:
Native and locally common in suitable habitats, particularly along coastal and sub-coastal regions.

Diet:
Carnivorous — feeds mainly on insects such as grasshoppers, beetles, and other invertebrates.

Behavior:
Diurnal and slow-moving. Excellent climber, spending most of its time in vegetation. Uses camouflage and slow, swaying movements to avoid detection. Hunts by remaining still and striking prey with its long tongue. Solitary and territorial.
