Identification:
A small, slender dove with a very long, pointed tail. The male is distinctive with a black face, throat, and breast, contrasting with a grey head and pale underparts. The wings are rich chestnut-brown. The female is more subdued, lacking the black face and showing an overall grey-brown coloration. Both sexes have a slim build and a delicate appearance.

Habitat:
Arid and semi-arid environments including deserts, scrublands, and open plains. Often found near water sources.

Status in the UAE:
Resident and locally common, especially in desert and semi-desert habitats.

Diet:
Granivorous — feeds mainly on seeds, especially small grass seeds.

Behavior:
Usually seen in pairs or small groups. Spends much of its time on the ground feeding. Flight is fast and direct, often low over the ground. Regularly visits water sources, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.
