Identification:
A small, slender sunbird with a curved bill adapted for nectar feeding. The male in breeding plumage is glossy dark with iridescent green, blue, and purple tones, often appearing black in poor light. The female is olive-grey above with yellowish underparts. Both sexes have short tails and fine bills.

Habitat:
Gardens, orchards, scrublands, parks, and urban areas with flowering plants.

Status in Lebanon:
Resident and locally common. Widely distributed in suitable habitats.

Diet:
Omnivorous — feeds on nectar, insects, and small invertebrates.

Behavior:
Active and agile, frequently moving between flowers. Capable of hovering briefly but usually feeds while perched. Males display during the breeding season. Builds hanging nests using plant fibers and spider silk.
