Identification:
A medium-sized squirrel with a relatively slender build and a moderately bushy tail. The fur is typically greyish-brown to olive-brown, with lighter underparts that may appear yellowish or orange. The ears are small and lack the prominent tufts seen in some other squirrel species. The tail is less dense compared to European squirrels, giving it a more streamlined look.

Habitat:
Forests, woodlands, orchards, and mountainous areas with trees. Prefers habitats with oak and pine trees.

Status in Lebanon:
Native and common. Widespread in forested and mountainous regions.

Diet:
Omnivorous — feeds on nuts, seeds, fruits, fungi, insects, and occasionally bird eggs.

Behavior:
Diurnal and active during the day. Arboreal, spending most of its time in trees. Known for storing food for later use. Agile climber with quick, darting movements. Usually solitary but may be seen in areas with abundant food.
