Identification:
A medium-sized canid with a slender body, pointed muzzle, and a long bushy tail often tipped with white. The coat is typically reddish-orange, though color can vary from pale sandy to darker tones. The legs are often darker, and the ears are upright and pointed. Its overall appearance is elegant and highly adaptable.

Habitat:
Forests, mountains, agricultural areas, grasslands, and even urban edges. Highly adaptable to a wide range of environments.

Status in Lebanon:
Native and common. Widespread across the country in both natural and human-modified habitats.

Diet:
Omnivorous — feeds on small mammals, birds, insects, fruits, and carrion.

Behavior:
Mostly nocturnal but can be active during the day. Solitary or living in small family groups. Highly intelligent and adaptable. Uses dens for shelter and raising young. Plays a key ecological role as both predator and scavenger.
