Identification:
A medium-sized bulbul with a dark, almost black head and upperparts, contrasting with paler underparts. The body shows a scaly pattern on the breast, and the tail is long with white tips. The most distinctive feature is the bright red patch under the tail (vent), clearly visible when perched or in flight. The head often appears slightly crested.

Habitat:
Urban areas, gardens, farms, parks, and open scrublands. Strongly associated with human-modified environments.

Status in the UAE:
Introduced species. Now common and well established in urban and semi-urban areas, especially in the northern Emirates.

Diet:
Omnivorous — feeds on fruits, nectar, insects, and small invertebrates.

Behavior:
Active and vocal. Often seen in pairs or small groups. Feeds in trees, shrubs, and on the ground. Adaptable and tolerant of human presence. Known for its loud calls and bold behavior. Can compete with native species for resources.
