Identification:
A slender, fast-moving snake with a long body, elongated head, and large eyes adapted for active daytime hunting. The coloration is highly variable, usually sandy, olive, or grey-brown with longitudinal dark stripes running along the body. The belly is pale, and the scales are smooth, giving the snake a sleek appearance. Its streamlined form is well adapted for speed in open habitats.

Habitat:
Dry rocky slopes, semi-arid scrublands, open grasslands, agricultural edges, and desert-like environments.

Status in Lebanon:
Native and locally present, particularly in dry and rocky habitats.

Diet:
Carnivorous — feeds mainly on lizards, small rodents, birds, and other small vertebrates.

Behavior:
Diurnal and extremely active. Hunts visually and relies on speed to pursue prey. Often seen moving rapidly across open ground or low vegetation. Mildly venomous to prey but generally not dangerous to humans. Alert and difficult to approach closely.
