Identification:
A highly distinctive praying mantis with a flattened body and elaborate leaf-like projections along the legs and thorax. Its coloration ranges from sandy beige to pale brown, perfectly matching dry vegetation and desert environments. The wings are broad and beautifully patterned, while the head carries large prominent eyes and long antennae. Its appearance closely resembles dried leaves or thistles, providing exceptional camouflage.

Habitat:
Arid and semi-arid habitats including deserts, scrublands, rocky slopes, dry grasslands, and areas with sparse vegetation.

Status in Lebanon:
Native and locally present in dry open habitats.

Diet:
Carnivorous — feeds on insects and other small arthropods.

Behavior:
An ambush predator that relies heavily on camouflage and stillness. Usually remains motionless among dry vegetation waiting for prey to approach. When threatened, may spread its wings in a defensive display. Active mainly during warm periods and well adapted to harsh arid environments.
