Identification:
A slim and elegant wader with long yellowish-green legs and a fine straight bill. The upperparts are brown with numerous pale spots and streaks, giving it a scaled appearance, while the underparts are white. A distinct pale eyebrow extends above the eye. In flight, it shows a bright white rump and dark wings.

Habitat:
Shallow wetlands, marshes, flooded fields, mudflats, pond edges, and freshwater lagoons.

Status in the UAE:
Common passage migrant and winter visitor. Widely recorded in wetlands and shallow freshwater habitats.

Status in Lebanon:
Common passage migrant. Frequently observed in wetlands and agricultural water bodies during migration.

Diet:
Carnivorous — feeds on insects, worms, crustaceans, mollusks, and other small aquatic invertebrates.

Behavior:
Usually active and constantly moving while feeding in shallow water or mud. Picks prey delicately from the surface. Often occurs singly or in small groups but may gather in larger numbers during migration. Alert and quick to take flight when disturbed.
