The Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium-to-large bird of prey widely distributed across Europe, western Asia, and parts of the Middle East, including Lebanon. It is a powerful and adaptable raptor, recognized by its broad wings, rounded tail, and variable plumage that ranges from dark brown to almost white. In Lebanon, the Common Buzzard is typically observed during migration and in winter, soaring in circles over open countryside, wooded hills, and mountainous regions. It feeds mainly on small mammals, birds, reptiles, and carrion, often hunting from perches or gliding low over fields. Its piercing call is a familiar sound in the wild and adds to its commanding presence in the landscape.
