Dahlβs Whip Snake (Platyceps najadum) is a fast-moving, slender colubrid found across parts of the eastern Mediterranean, including Lebanon, where it inhabits rocky hillsides, open woodlands, agricultural areas, and dry scrub habitats. It is easily recognized by its elongated body, long tail, and smooth scales, typically showing a greyish or olive coloration with darker longitudinal markings, especially visible in younger individuals. This species is highly active during the day and relies on speed and agility to hunt, feeding primarily on lizards, small mammals, and occasionally birds or large insects. In Lebanon, it is considered native and relatively widespread, though often overlooked due to its quick movements and non-aggressive nature. When threatened, it prefers to flee rapidly rather than defend itself, making encounters brief but dynamic in the field.
