Identification:
A small and rather plain warbler with grey upperparts, whitish underparts, and a distinct dark ear patch contrasting with a white throat. The head is grey, the bill is fine and dark, and the eyes are dark with a subtle pale eye-ring. Compared to other whitethroats, it appears cleaner and more compact with less warm coloration.

Habitat:
Scrublands, gardens, orchards, forest edges, agricultural areas, and open woodland with bushes.

Status in the UAE:
Common passage migrant and winter visitor.

Status in Lebanon:
Common passage migrant and local breeder in suitable habitats.

Diet:
Insectivorous — feeds mainly on insects, larvae, spiders, and small invertebrates, occasionally consuming berries during migration.

Behavior:
Usually active but often remains hidden within dense shrubs. Moves quickly between branches while foraging. More often detected by its calls than by direct observation. During migration, may occur singly or in loose mixed flocks with other small passerines.
