Middle Eastern Short-fingered Gecko / Stenodactylus doriae **
The Middle Eastern Short-fingered Gecko (Stenodactylus doriae) is a small, nocturnal desert gecko adapted to life on loose sandy substrates. It has a slender body, relatively long limbs, and narrow, elongated toes fringed with fine scales that aid movement across soft sand. Coloration typically ranges from pale beige to sandy brown, often marked with subtle darker blotches or speckling that provide effective camouflage against desert surfaces. Active mainly at night, this gecko forages for small insects and other arthropods, leaving delicate track patterns on dunes and flat sandy plains. In the UAE, it is most often encountered in open desert habitats, including sand sheets and low dunes, where it shelters by day beneath the sand or in shallow burrows, emerging after sunset when temperatures drop.
