Identification:
A small, slender pipit. In breeding plumage, it is distinctive with a rich reddish throat, face, and breast, contrasting with streaked upperparts. In non-breeding plumage, it appears more similar to other pipits, with brown streaked upperparts and buff underparts, but usually retains a faint warm tone on the face and a well-defined supercilium. The bill is fine and pointed.

Habitat:
Wet grasslands, marsh edges, coastal plains, and open muddy or vegetated areas.

Status in the UAE:
Common passage migrant and winter visitor. Frequently recorded in wetlands and open habitats.

Diet:
Insectivorous — feeds on insects and other small invertebrates.

Behavior:
Often seen walking or running on the ground while foraging. Moves quickly and pauses to pick prey. Usually solitary or in small groups. During migration, may gather in larger numbers. Flight is light and undulating.
