Identification:
A medium-sized pigeon with a compact body and broad wings. Wild-type birds show a bluish-grey plumage with two black wing bars, an iridescent green and purple sheen on the neck, and a pale grey rump. However, urban populations display wide variation in color due to domestication and feral mixing. The bill is short with a pale cere, and the eyes are orange to red.

Habitat:
Cliffs, rocky areas, urban environments, buildings, bridges, and coastal structures. Originally a cliff-dwelling species now strongly associated with human settlements.

Status in the UAE:
Common resident. Abundant in cities, towns, and coastal areas.

Diet:
Granivorous — feeds mainly on seeds, grains, and human food scraps.

Behavior:
Highly social and often seen in flocks. Forages on the ground and roosts on ledges and buildings. Strong flier with fast, direct flight. Known for its adaptability to urban life. Nests on ledges, buildings, and other structures that mimic natural cliffs.
