Identification:
A small, active warbler with clear sexual dimorphism. The male is distinctive with a black head, white throat, grey body, and a conspicuous red eye-ring. The female is more subdued, with a grey-brown head instead of black, but still shows the characteristic red eye-ring. The tail is long and often flicked, with white outer edges visible in flight.

Habitat:
Dense scrublands, Mediterranean maquis, gardens, orchards, and forest edges.

Status in Lebanon:
Common resident. Widely distributed in suitable habitats, especially in coastal and lowland areas.

Diet:
Omnivorous — feeds on insects, spiders, and small fruits or berries.

Behavior:
Very active and often remains within dense vegetation. Frequently flicks its tail and moves quickly between bushes. More often heard than seen, with a harsh, chattering call. Territorial during breeding season.
