Identification:
A small finch with a compact body and short tail. Plumage is generally grey-brown with fine streaking, lacking the bright yellow tones seen in some related species. The face is plain with subtle markings, and the bill is short and conical. Overall, it has a rather subdued and delicate appearance.

Habitat:
Rocky hillsides, open woodlands, scrublands, and mountainous areas with sparse vegetation.

Status in Lebanon:
Native and locally present. Found mainly in mountainous regions and rocky habitats. Considered uncommon and declining in parts of its range.

Diet:
Granivorous — feeds mainly on seeds and small plant material, occasionally insects.

Behavior:
Often seen in small flocks, especially outside the breeding season. Feeds on the ground or among low vegetation. Flight is light and undulating. During breeding, males sing from elevated perches.
