The Dune Sand Gecko (Stenodactylus doriae) is a small, nocturnal lizard adapted to arid desert environments across the Middle East, including the UAE. Recognizable by its pale, sandy coloration and large eyes, it is well-camouflaged in the dune ecosystems it inhabits. This gecko is an important insect predator, feeding on a variety of small invertebrates and contributing to natural pest control. Its specialized toe pads and behavior allow it to navigate shifting sand efficiently, making it a key species in dune ecology. While not currently considered threatened, the Dune Sand Gecko's habitat is increasingly at risk from urban development, off-road driving, and habitat degradation, emphasizing the need for ongoing monitoring and protection of desert landscapes to ensure the survival of this ecologically valuable reptile.
