Eurasian Blackcap \ Sylvia atricapilla **
The Eurasian Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) is a charming songbird known for its melodic and fluting song, often earning it the nickname “the nightingale of the north.” In Lebanon, it appears mainly as a passage migrant during spring and autumn, though some individuals may overwinter in milder areas. Males are easily identified by their sleek black caps, while females sport a reddish-brown crown. This species prefers woodlands, orchards, and dense gardens, where it feeds on insects, berries, and soft fruits. Despite its shy nature, the Blackcap’s rich song often gives away its presence long before it’s seen.
