The Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica) (formerly as: Cyanecula svecica) is a striking migratory songbird that passes through Lebanon during spring and autumn migration, with some individuals wintering in suitable wetland habitats. Often nicknamed the "northern nightingale," the Bluethroat is admired for its vivid plumage—especially the males, which display a bright blue throat with a reddish or white central spot, depending on the subspecies. In Lebanon, it is most commonly observed in reed beds, wet fields, and the edges of marshes, where it skulks low in vegetation but occasionally perches to sing. Despite its elusive behavior, patient observers can catch glimpses of this beautiful bird during migration seasons in areas like the Bekaa Valley or Aammiq Wetland.
