The Chukar (Alectoris chukar) is a medium-sized game bird in the pheasant family, widely distributed across rocky hillsides, mountainous regions, and arid landscapes of the Middle East, Central Asia, and parts of Europe. It is easily recognized by its bold black-and-white facial markings, buff-colored body, and striking black bars on its flanks. Adapted to rugged terrain, the Chukar is an agile runner, often seen scurrying up slopes rather than taking flight when disturbed. It primarily feeds on seeds, grasses, and small insects, foraging in small coveys. Known for its loud, repetitive calls, the species plays an important cultural role as a symbol of beauty and perseverance in many regions. In the UAE, Chukars are sometimes found in mountainous areas, where they blend seamlessly with the rocky surroundings.
