The European Greenfinch (Chloris chloris) is a very common and widespread breeding resident in Lebanon, found from lowlands to mountain areas in habitats such as cedar and pine groves, mixed woodland, orchards, cultivation, gardens, and ravines with trees. It is a sturdy finch with a thick pale bill, olive-green plumage, and bright yellow flashes in the wings and tail that stand out clearly in flight. In Lebanon, it is often seen perched in trees or feeding quietly on the ground, taking seeds, buds, fruits, and other plant material. Although present throughout the year, numbers may increase in winter, and a small passage movement is also noted during spring and autumn. Its familiar appearance and pleasant presence make it one of the characteristic finches of the Lebanese landscape.
