The Nosed Grasshopper (Acrida ungarica) is a distinctive species of grasshopper recognized by its elongated, cone-shaped head and slender body, adaptations that provide excellent camouflage among grasses and dry vegetation. In Lebanon, it is found in grasslands, agricultural fields, open scrublands, and meadows, where its green or straw-colored body helps it blend seamlessly into its surroundings. Primarily feeding on grasses and other herbaceous plants, this species plays an important role in local ecosystems as both a herbivore and a food source for birds, reptiles, and other predators. When disturbed, it relies on its camouflage and powerful jumping ability to escape danger, often disappearing quickly into surrounding vegetation.
