The Ruusaljibal Fan-footed Gecko (Ptyodactylus ruusaljibalicus) is a recently described gecko species endemic to the Hajar Mountains of the United Arab Emirates and northern Oman. It belongs to the fan-footed gecko group, characterized by its broad, flattened toes equipped with specialized adhesive structures that allow it to climb steep rock faces and vertical surfaces with ease. This nocturnal species inhabits rocky mountain slopes, cliffs, boulder fields, and wadis, where its mottled grey-brown coloration provides excellent camouflage against the surrounding stone. After sunset, it emerges to hunt insects and other small invertebrates across rock walls and crevices. As a mountain endemic with a restricted distribution, the Ruusaljibal Fan-footed Gecko represents an important part of the unique reptile diversity of the Hajar Mountains and highlights the region’s significance for biodiversity and endemism.
