The Garganey (Spatula querquedula) is a small, migratory dabbling duck that passes through Lebanon during spring and autumn migration, occasionally appearing in wetlands, lakes, and agricultural ponds. Males are easily recognized by their bold white eyebrow stripe, dark brown head, and finely patterned body, while females are more subtly colored in mottled brown plumage. This species feeds on seeds, aquatic vegetation, and small invertebrates, foraging in shallow water or at the surface. The Garganey is a long-distance migrant, wintering in tropical Africa, making its passage through Lebanon brief but significant along its migration route.
