Hajar Rock Agama \ Pseudotrapelus jensvindumi
The Hajar Rock Agama (Pseudotrapelus jensvindumi), is a medium-sized rock-dwelling lizard from the Hajar Mountains of the UAE and Oman. It has a slender body, very long hind limbs, a large robust head, and strong climbing ability, making it well adapted to cliffs, boulders, rocky wadis, escarpments, and surrounding gravel plains. The Hajar guide notes a snout–vent length of about 92 mm, and males and females can show distinctive breeding coloration.
In the UAE, this agama is strongly linked to mountain and rocky habitats, not open sand desert. It is a rock specialist recorded in the Hajar Mountains and nearby gravel plains, from sea level up to around 1,000 m elevation. It is usually seen during the day, often sitting on exposed rocks, walls, or boulders where it can watch for insects and quickly escape into cracks or across rock surfaces when disturbed.
This species is important because it represents the regional reptile identity of the Hajar Mountains. It is not UAE-only, but it is part of a mountain fauna shared between the UAE and Oman, shaped by the rocky geography of the Hajar range. For a UAE reptile portfolio, the Hajar Rock Agama is one of the best species to show the difference between open-desert reptiles and reptiles adapted to cliffs, wadis, and rugged mountain terrain.
