The Lesser Spotted Eagle (Clanga pomarina) is a medium-sized migratory eagle recorded in Lebanon as a passage bird, moving through the country along one of the eastern Mediterranean’s important raptor flyways. It is a long-distance migrant, traveling between breeding grounds in Europe and western Asia and wintering areas farther south, and it has been specifically highlighted in Lebanese migration studies and conservation work focused on soaring birds. In the field, it appears as a fairly compact eagle with broad wings, a relatively small head, and generally brown plumage, often seen soaring above mountain ridges, open landscapes, and wooded slopes while scanning below for small mammals, reptiles, and other prey. Its regular seasonal passage adds to the richness of Lebanon’s raptor migration and underlines the country’s importance as a natural corridor for birds moving between continents
