The Mediterranean House Gecko \ Hemidactylus turcicus, is a small nocturnal gecko found in Lebanon and across much of the Mediterranean and Middle East. It is strongly associated with human settlements, old stone walls, houses, gardens, ruins, and rocky areas, where it shelters by day in cracks and crevices and becomes active after sunset. Pale beige to pinkish-grey in color, often with darker spots or bands, it has large lidless eyes and adhesive toe pads that allow it to climb walls and ceilings with ease. In Lebanon, it is commonly seen around lights at night, where it hunts moths, mosquitoes, flies, and other small insects, making it a useful and harmless species around homes. Its close relationship with buildings and villages has helped it remain one of the most familiar geckos in Mediterranean landscapes.
