The Pale Rock Martin (Ptyonoprogne obsoleta) is a small, non-migratory swallow found across arid and semi-arid regions of the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of South Asia. Adapted to rugged landscapes, it prefers rocky cliffs, wadis, and desert escarpments, where it often nests in sheltered crevices or man-made structures. Its plumage is uniformly dusty-brown with slightly paler underparts, allowing it to blend seamlessly into its dry surroundings. Aerial and agile, the Pale Rock Martin feeds on flying insects, performing fast, fluttery flights close to the ground or cliff faces. While generally solitary or found in small loose groups, it may gather in larger numbers at favored roosting or feeding sites. In the UAE, it is a resident breeder and can be observed year-round in mountainous and rocky areas.
