The Eastern Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla tschutschensis) is a slender and highly migratory wagtail associated with open wetlands, grasslands, agricultural fields, and coastal habitats. It is part of the complex group formerly included within the Yellow Wagtail species complex and is recognized by its bright yellow underparts, olive to grey upperparts, and variable head patterns depending on subspecies and age. This wagtail actively forages on the ground, feeding mainly on insects and other small invertebrates, often near grazing animals or shallow water. During migration, it can appear across the Middle East, including the UAE, where it may be observed in wetlands, farms, and coastal plains. Its constant tail-wagging behavior and energetic movements make it one of the most lively and recognizable wagtail species.
