Birding in Ras Al Khaimah: A One-Day Guided Trip That Delivered the Unexpected
If someone had told me I would see a Common Kingfisher, Osprey, Oystercatcher, and Crab Plover all in one day in the UAE, I would have been skeptical. Yet on 02 January 2026, during a guided birding and wildlife photography trip I organized, that exact combination unfolded—along with something even rarer: quality photographic opportunities for every highlight species.
To photograph all four of these species with good image quality would normally take months of repeated field visits. Experiencing—and photographing—them all in a single day is exceptionally rare.
Those four species stood out, but they were only part of a much richer day. Over the course of the trip, we explored six carefully selected locations across Ras Al Khaimah, observing and photographing more than 30 bird species. The diversity included herons, egrets, terns, gulls, plovers, sandpipers, shanks, shrikes, bee-eaters, hoopoes, and more—an exceptional result for a single day in the field.
