The Gallagher’s Leaf-toed Gecko (Asaccus gallagheri) is a small nocturnal gecko endemic to the Hajar Mountains of the United Arab Emirates and northern Oman. Closely associated with rocky mountain habitats, it inhabits cliffs, steep slopes, boulder fields, and mountain wadis, where its cryptic grey-brown coloration provides excellent camouflage against rock surfaces. Like other members of the genus Asaccus, it possesses distinctive leaf-shaped digits equipped with specialized adhesive structures that allow it to move confidently across vertical rock faces and narrow crevices. Active after dark, it emerges to hunt insects and other small invertebrates among the rocks. As a mountain endemic with a restricted distribution, Gallagher’s Leaf-toed Gecko is an important component of the unique reptile diversity of the Hajar Mountains and highlights the biological significance of these rugged landscapes.
